I want you to close your eyes and listen to the sound of my voice.

I want you to imagine that you are sitting in the dark and the only light around you is on your own hands. Stretched out in front of you are piano keys, endless black and white, twinkling tokens of music spread out as far as you can see in each direction.

Go ahead and readjust your seat. Get comfortable. You are about to play.

Long before you make a single stroke, you can already hear how they sound. Individually, the lowest notes reverberate across the empty space before coming to a cushioned halt against heavy muslin curtains. Can you feel the vibrations rattling your body from your fingertips up through your rib-cage? The heavy natural keys ground you into the movement. The piano is begging for more. High notes strike the ceiling and bounce back. You close your eyes harder and start playing all the keys, every note. Your hands are moving steadily, making all the noise you want to hear. Are you listening? Can you hear the piano playing?

Now I want you to listen to my voice again.

Is the music, are the notes going up or down?
